Zucchini (also Courgette/Marrow, Summer squash) 21 Nov, Hannah (New Zealand - temperate climate): Hello, I am new to growing vegetables in general, and am really enjoying it. I recently planted three courgette plants, and did as instructed on the label which was to plant on a raised bed. They are not looking 100% happy at the moment, drooping a bit and some of the leaves are bit burnt/brown around the edges. I was wondering on some good tips for growing courgettes? And how often I should be watering them? Thanks. H

Zucchini (also Courgette/Marrow, Summer squash) 17 Sep, Mike (Australia - sub-tropical climate): I wouldn't worry about the raised beds so much - good draining soil required. Small plants need small regular daily watering - shallow roots. Bigger plants a good watering each 2-3 days. Water around the base and soil and not on the leaves if you can or water early in the day so the leaves dry quickly. Hand pollinate if you have no bees.

Zucchini (also Courgette/Marrow, Summer squash) 30 Dec, Andrew (New Zealand - temperate climate): I had the same issue , they took awhile to come away but are growing well now , Rock melons do the same , I was told to keep them in a bigger pot till they got a bit stronger before planting in soil , they can get a fungis if to small and vulnerable , do not water at night .

I had put 6 plants in & they are so full that I've had to tie the plants up as very heavy & falling over. I think it depends where u live in NZ on how they grow

Spinach (also English spinach) 11 Nov, Charlotte (New Zealand - sub-tropical climate): My understanding is that the warmer weather can cause it to bolt and go to seed extremely quickly. It likes sun but needs less heat to give the full benefits and yeild. Nz spinach does better during the summer months and is a good alternative option.

Hybrid, we need them, about the size of a hand, say approx 14cm x 12cm??? For a wedding on 5th February 2018. We were going to plant them around 4th - 11th November, is that too early??? Beans - climbing (also Pole beans, Runner beans, Scarlet Runners) 12 Oct, Jill Farr (New Zealand - temperate climate): I grew Scarlet Runner beans last year and while the plants grew well, they didn't grow any beans on them! I was surprised as I have grown them before many times and never had this problem. I am about to plant some for this season, but am keen to receive any ideas about what I could do to ensure getting a good crop.
