I have a rhubarb plant that is a year old and I see it has stalks that look like they have seeded. Do I just cut these out and will the plants keep doing this. This is my first go with rhubarb. Thanks Linda

If your soil is volcanic they should do well the best horseradish I ever grew was in red volcanic soil in the Redlands east of Brisbane

Hi Paul The Koanga Institute have seeds available they call it the Dalmatian cabbage. I think i have seen it advertised in either the Egmont seeds catalogue or the Kings seeds catalogue. All three have on line catalogues. Collards are a type of Brassica. Regards Barry

Last summer I planted four green capsicum seedlings and they have been prolific producers and are still flowering now. However the capsicums have been very bitter, only the very large ones are edible. This is the first time I have grown capsicum, could the soil nutrients be to blame? I think next year I will try a coloured capsicum so at least I know I won't be harvesting them too early.

I always plant seeds on Nov 1st in a nursery bed ,use liquid feed to raise . Febuary I plant by the moon Calendar When planting I dib hole 150 mm deep ,place in two sheep pellets and water in . Trim tops and root before planting .If too hot cover in shade cloth, and water regulary until established. Have had good sucess in the past.

Hi, We have planted some potatoes and they are almost ready to harvest. I'm not really sure of the variety as my husband planted some potatoes, not from seed. It looks like there are some seed pods forming whee the flowers are. Can we use these for our next crop? If so, what do er have to do?

Bean disaster!! Someone forgot to close the gate in the "hare proof" fence and where we had three rows of dwarf beans with their first proper leaves - we now have three rows of stems only :(

try roasting them along with other "usual" vegetables, brush clean - leaves roots and top on (take off most of the stalks)

Whole flowered dill is also great for pickling cucumbers both in just salt water (salty gherkins made in Eastern Europe) or the traditional vinegar gherkins - yum!

I grow my shallots from seed from August through to October, also red and pukekohe onions. That way I get lots of plants and they do very well. I stagger seed sowing so they do not all mature at once. I fertilise with lots of sheep pellets and blood and bone.
