Ginger 03 May, Paul Tan (Australia - temperate climate)
1) when is the best time to plant ginger in Melbourne? 2) How can I replant the unused from previous harvest? 3) Should I store my ginger in fridge or in cool dry area?
Ginger 21 May, Geoff (Australia - temperate climate)
Don't pull the plant out. Just dig a little and break off a piece of root as you need it.
Garlic 02 May, Lou (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Hi this is my second year growing garlic. This years crop the above ground green is going yellow. Is there something I maybe lacking in fertiliser or lime. Thanks in advance Cheers Lou
Garlic 12 May, David Warland (Australia - temperate climate)
Gday Lou, could be a few things, Nitrogen of course, but, it could well be magnesium, trace elements etc. Get a pH test done on you soil, garlic like most veggies like acidic soil, I aim for 6.5 in my garlic beds. Is your soil well draining ? Try some blood and bone and add some extra magnesuium Sulphate, (epsom salts). If your pH is too high, you must lower it, or risk poor or no crop.
Garlic 07 May, (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
Probably lacks nitrogen
Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 02 May, Suzie Carlile (United Kingdom - warm/temperate climate)
I have grown cape Gooseberries successfully a few years ago. I live in south east. Fabulous crop. My question is how do you look after the plants after harvest and overwinter. I lost all my plants over the winter so starting again from seed this year. Thankyou. Suzie.
Cape Gooseberry (also Golden Berry, Inca Berry ) 24 Nov, (United Kingdom - warm/temperate climate)
It says it is perennial here so should grow all year. Maybe a light trimming after harvest. Frosts might kill it. Don't over water it during it's dormant time.
Corn Salad (also Lamb's lettuce or Mache) 02 May, Diane Francis (New Zealand - temperate climate)
Where can I buy lambs lettuce in Auckland, or can I buy it from you?

Chilli peppers (also Hot peppers) 30 Apr, Aaron Love (New Zealand - temperate climate)
I have a Chilli Peter bush that I have had a lot of peppers off, can I keep it growing for another season? Thanks Aaron
Chilli peppers (also Hot peppers) 11 Aug, Peter (New Zealand - cool/mountain climate)
I have a chocolate Habanero plant which I brought inside to over winter and I'm amazed to say it actually flowered and I see it has fruit developing now (mid August). These chilli plants need a long growing season and I'm optimistic that I'll get masses of fruit from this plant in the coming months for my hot sauce recipes. Did you manage to over winter your chilli plant Aaron?

Broccoli 29 Apr, Lawrence Umba (Australia - tropical climate)
I am a farmer from Papua New Guinea at an altitude of 1000 m above sea level. I am trying to produce Broccoli in my farm and wonder is it going to be like growing Broccoli at Australia -Tropical, or do I have to do my own trials. Thank you
Broccoli 29 Jul, Rachael (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
You can plant anything using the tropical guide on this site. You get good rain and should look into companion plantings to avoid pests, Good luck
Broccoli 27 Apr, Katherine (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
We live on Norfolk Island and have just bought a house with a market garden and planted our first crop of broccoli 2 weeks ago. We have noticed the leaves have white squiggly lines on them and have small holes in them. We are planning on continuing the organic gardening of the previous owners.
Broccoli 12 May, Danielle (Australia - temperate climate)
Hi Katherine, the squiggly lines are from leaf miner and the holes in the leaves are from cabbage moth caterpillars. Check under the leaves for yellow eggs, and also pick off any caterpillars, i'd reccomend netting your broccoli.
Pumpkin 27 Apr, Lindsey (New Zealand - temperate climate)
I would like to grow some pepitas or other breed of squash that has an edible seed. Can you reccomend a type and tell me where i can buy seed, cheers Lindsey
Pumpkin 22 Jul, Walter fargo (New Zealand - temperate climate)
Hi Lindsy. Try Kings seeds, they have two types of oil seed pumpkin (that is the type you want). Austrian Oil Seed Pumpkin and Pumpkin Lady Godiva. Be careful with the water when sowing the seed, as they have no husk they can rot if the soil is too wet.
Pumpkin 26 Apr, skyler (USA - Zone 7b climate)

Asparagus 25 Apr, Sean0 Wilson (New Zealand - cool/mountain climate)
When do I cut down my asparagus ferns to prepare the bed for winter? At the moment – still quite lush and green. I’m from Chch.
Asparagus 06 May, Green thumb (New Zealand - sub-tropical climate)
Cut the ferns in late August and put compost or composted manure on it. Stop watering them now.
Peas 24 Apr, Jim Cooper (New Zealand - temperate climate)
I have planted scarlet runner beans with great success but the following years I have experienced problems growing them. I understand that they need a nitrogen fixing plant to improve the soil and that spring peas are a good way to do this. Can you recommend a good variety? I believe you need to dig them into the soil just after flowering. Is this correct?
Peas 06 May, Green thumb (New Zealand - sub-tropical climate)
Beans and peas are nitrogen fixing.
Choko/Chayote (also Chayote squash, christophene, chouchou, mirliton) 24 Apr, Beverley Prior (Australia - temperate climate)
