I grew Mammoth and they grew very tall before flowering. I recommend Oregon giant. They will bear over a few weeks, 3 maybe 4. Do plantings about 1 month apart. I don't pinch the top out, not necessary. Make a trellis for them about 1.2-1.5m high. A bit of chicken wire.

can snap peas grow in an area which receives 4hrs/day sunlight?

Probably not very well, other words a light crop probably. Look up hours of sunlight for snap peas on the internet.

Find your zone at the top of the page, then find the plant on the Vegetables and Herbs tab. You will find the information there.

I live in Sacramento and it gets HOT. Should I plant my peas on a North or South side of my property to reduce heat stress? I've never been able to get my seedlings to progress very far in the past. TIA

I’ve planted my snap peas in a location where they get shade in the late afternoon and they do great. I’m also in Ca Central Valley.

Kim, are you able to grow them through summer? I’m also in the same zone and would love to continue to grow snap peas but keep reading that I can’t do that after March because it’s too hot.

Once more I need your help towards finding a cultivar which I would call "black eyed peas" because they look like ordinary peas we use on daily basis. Their difference is that they have black eyes when they are dry. They turn "whitish" when they are dry. Please help.
