Probably more to do with good rich soil. It does suggest here to plant by it's self as it spreads out and may eventually smother out other plants.

i have cut back my asparagus when it died back, about 3 weeks ago. I covered it with manure and compost and it has begun to grow again. The new stalks are about 15 - 20 cms already but only pencil thin. I really want to harvest white asparagus, should i mound the soil up over the asparagus now? or should i let it just grow?

Plant white asparagus if you want white. If plant is old you could cut the spears - thin ones. If plant is 1-2 years old could let the thin spears grow. Read up about male and female asparagus.

I like to plant Money maker in Pretoria. Ox heart is a traditional variety but it has very low resistance to insects and pests. Be on the lookout for mildew and others as well as bottom end rot. Plan a preventative program. I am using drip irrigation instead of over head.

Just dig by hand around the base of a plant to see if there are any potatoes forming - if so put the soil back and wait until the plant dies off before harvesting them.

Look up the internet to see if there is an insecticide/fungicide. The same as my comment for sweet potato. - learn what N P and K do for plants. Then apply that to what you are growing. They don't make different fertilisers for every kind of veggie.

To treat tomatoes from pets like aphids and red spider. Red spider can finish your plant without even noticing them because they are very small. Your tomatoe leaves becomes yellow and the whole plant ends up dying. Potatoes also have the same problem. You may think they are getting ready. Just use Oleum. It is very good.
