Luffa (also Loofah, plant sponge) 17 Sep, Terri (USA - Zone 8a climate)
Loofa need a long time to mature. 5 months or more. I planted mine late this year. Late May. They were full vines without flowers until late July. Now they are full of flowers and loofa. I am not sure how late you planted them but they may just not be mature. Another thing may be too much nitrogen in the soil.switch to phosphorus based to get the plants focused on flowering.

I would like to find if there are variety of red/purple cabbage suited for tropical climates. I currently plant green cabbage and they firm nice heads. If there red/purple cabbage suited or can be planted in tropics
Cabbage 29 Aug, anon (Australia - tropical climate)
Most plants can be sown in the tropics, you just have a narrow time to plant - so the crop grows in the cooler time of the year. Try Boondie Seeds they have some red varieties.
Garlic 28 Aug, Jules Sturm (New Zealand - temperate climate)
Here's a tip ,to get your garlic sprouting prior to planting ( using cloves) separate the cloves ,place on a plate & put in the fridge ..the temperature drop & darkness shocks them into sprouting ...you will get both root& shoot growth so plant when roots about 5-10mm long ...

Hello nice people I am mad about cabbage and would like to grow it all year round. Can you advise me which varieties to grow for each season please? Thankyou
Cabbage 26 Aug, Anon (Australia - tropical climate)
Generally people who live in different climate zones can not grow most things all year round. Reason most plants need a certain season - temp range - to grow. Things like too hot, or too cold, windy, chance of severe storms etc these all affect the chances of producing a good crop. Things like tomatoes, corn, egg plant caps need warm weather. Cold weather - cabbage broccoli, some lettuce etc.
Cabbage 20 Jun, Agri (Australia - tropical climate)
Sometimes, you can tweak these constraints and create ur own micro climate. Go for the cabbages.
Cowpeas (also Black eye peas, Southern peas) 24 Aug, Natalia (Australia - sub-tropical climate)
I want to know the fertilizer recommendation(Including major and minor elements) of cowpea in sub-tropical, Australia. I lived in Armidale, NSW and I am going to grow cowpea. If I have a chance, could you please discuss boron and zinc fertilizer application (both basal and foliar fertiliser application)? Regards, Natalia
Cowpeas (also Black eye peas, Southern peas) 26 Aug, Anon (Australia - tropical climate)
If you were going to grow these on a large commercial scale then you could go into all this stuff you ask. Are you growing it to eat. In some farming it is used as a green manure crop. It puts N back into the soil - also some fibre. A general vegie fert would do. If really into boron and zinc buy some at Bunnings and apply at the rate on the packet.
Yam/Oca (also Oka) 24 Aug, Sandy (Australia - cool/mountain climate)
So, I grew yam successfully, can I keep some and them replant them?
